Dear Western Community Members,
On Tuesday, February 25th the voters in Western School District approved the renewal of the Non-Homestead Millage. On behalf of the Board of Education, administrative team, teachers and support staff, I would like to thank all who supported and voted for the renewal of this millage. Thanks to the support of our community, Western will continue receive the maximum per pupil funding allowed by state law.
As a district, we are committed to providing the children of our community with a quality education that will prepare them for college and/or career opportunities after graduation. While not every graduate is destined for college, every graduate needs to be prepared to enter the work force or continue their education towards a career.
Currently, Jackson County schools are working with manufacturing leaders in our community to address the need for skilled workers. I am looking forward to seeing where Western and the rest of Jackson County can take K-12 education in the near future. Growing partnerships with business and industry will help build a strong work force for Jackson County and make our community a more attractive place for business and families to locate.
Thank you again, for supporting Western School District.

The access road to Michigan Avenue is progressing well. The permanent culvert has been installed in the creek between the AYSO field and the Maxson property. This is a very large culvert that should manage the creek's flow easily. Check out the pictures to see the giant culvert. The work on the auxiliary parking lot near the tennis courts should begin the week of June 11th. At that time, the soccer hill will be excavated to begin forming the road passing north of the administration office. If all goes well, we could asphalt being laid on the auxiliary parking lot and access road in early July.
Sodding the football field has been pushed back to next week. As for the softball and baseball fields, the seeding has been delayed as further irrigation may be installed to provide coverage of the green space at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Dearing Road.
The roof joists are installed on the new gym and the first part of the roof decking is being installed. The brick exterior is progressing quickly around the gym, fitness center and new classrooms.
Inside the high school, the mechanical work continues in unoccupied spaces. Pipes, duct work and wiring are being run throughout the existing and new structure. The amount of wire and pipes that have already been installed is impressive.
